English Automotive Events

Ok so heres the deal..

This is my last summer in Sweden for the time being and my last summer before Uni...and the plan is to make it the best one that is...and for people like us, thats pretty easy isn't it? just make it completly based on a single thing..cars! :P

I'm gonna make sure that I get to most of the big shows in sweden anyway..was also thinking of maybe taking a trip to england or some other country to squeeze some more events on the schedule :P

Any tips?

Ten of the Best http://totb.co.uk - drag, track and top speed 1 day event
Trax http://www.traxshows.co.uk/ - 1 day show car, track event (a crap Gatebil)
GoodWood http://www.goodwood.co.uk/ ( a horedously expensive hillclimb event)

theres more info here

Ok, but what about the rest of europe? :P

hmm, tis true though, Sweden and Norway have some pretty sweet events..otherwise I've heard that our friends in Aurstalia have a wild car culture too when it comes to extreme automotive madness :P

I think what you put there is pretty much spot on to be honest, although goodwood still gets my vote as the best.

They do a lot of hill climbing, but its called the festival of speed, so you get just about everything there. Last event had everything from the JCB twin diesel engined land speed machine to the group B rally cars flying through the forrest stage designed by hannu mikkola, to the f1 and anything else that went fast on track.

most of the worlds racing drivers from all series and types are usually there too. Sterling moss is a regular!

http://www.japshow.co.uk - Was meant to go last year but didn't get the chance. Might be worth taking a look. There's a danger it could be a bit chav scum (crap).

ToTB is supposed to be worth going to as Anthon said and Goodwood was quite impressive when I was there a couple of years ago.

Depends what you want I guess. There's a fair few with crap cars and dirty essex whores if that turns you on.

Goodwood is my dream when it comes to car/motorsport related events.Suppose I should start saving now and take my son when he is old enough to appreciate the smell of Elf racefuel.
So my vote goes to goodwood, even if I would envy you ;-)

HI there,.. hello Zatzy form, long time reader, first time poster :)

I think the Retro Rides Show might be right up your street if you are visiting the UK. Seeing as I'm new I can't post websites .. but google up retro rides show and you'll be there.

For full disclosure I am one of the organisers, we are trying to make a kind of Goodwood, but without the champagne (and high entry cost). We have a small contingent of guys coming from Norway already, and are hoping to get more over the next few weeks. It is however difficult for us to spread the word, seeing as we don't speak Norweigan :)

Hello David and welcome to zatzy first of all!!

If you want to send me some links via private message, i will of course post them to this thread if you like. So the show is yours or your a part of it, care to tell us more?

There are a few of us on here from the UK and loads from mainland europe who could maybe attend if it was of interest :D How old are you classing as retro?

The whole "what is retro" question is going to haunt me until the day I die. :)

If you want to put a date on it then I'd plump for the pre-1990, or at least 15 years old... but it is such a grey area... If you look at the pictures on the site (at the bottom) and think you might like to check those things out in the flesh,.. then its for you :)

I wrote this for the site to help define it,..

"However defining the cars that will be at the show is a little tricky, though there some general aspects that often tie them together. The cars are generally a peoples car of some sort, rather than an out of reach sports car, or they are an under appreciated classic. Some will be returned to factory spec, some may have a natural patina and others will be modified (either aesthetically, mechanically or both). More often than not they would be what most people consider budget classics.

However, it may not conform to any of these things; this is what makes the Retro Rides Show so interesting and inclusive. So if you've got a 1973 Vauxhall Viva dropped over BBS alloys, or a 1906 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost, we'll be similarly overjoyed to see you rolling through the gates - because above everything else the Retro Ride Show is about a love of cars!"

Hey David,

First off, welcome to Zatzy! I had a quick browse of the Retro Rides forum, in paticular the rides poeple are taking to the event. Some really funky stuff on there, would be cool to come up. I also saw a Ford Capri posted on the forum. It should be a written rule that every car event must include a Capri!!

Steve.

haha i love the GT6, what a great looking car!

David: Your link is below mate. As for the retro question, its something i have often wondered about. I have at the moment a BMW e36 project which is a 1991 model. Now although its not retro even in my eyes, its still old ... but its a design that was carried on for many years and so still looks like one of the more recent e36 cars.

anyways blabbing on, i have a taste for older retro motors having owned a Mk3 Capri, 105E Anglia, 1972 400 Firebird and my current 21 year old 740 Volvo .. haha. Good luck with the shows, i might just come and see. I subscibed to your mailing list :)

hehe this is funny, we had a big debate about the retro credentials of the E36 when someone posted one up in our readers rides section,.. I'd say it definatly wasn't retro yet, but they could still make for some interesting cars, and definatly will be one day.

Thanks for sticking up the link Johnathan..

Steve, Capri's are indeed compulsory for all motoring events :)

Does anyone have any contact with any of the high powered Ford guys from Norway,.. Henrik's Mk2 is a good example of the sort of car we'd like to invite over personally as a guest of the show.

Currently I'm trying to track down a couple of specific Swedish cars (Mattias Vocks' Amazon Estate for one).. I'll get some text together,.. thank you for the offer.

I know we've got some people from the continent coming already (a hand full of Dutch and Norwegian (VW) guys) but it'd be great to get more for diversity and quality!
