Richard hammond in a car crash

news in swedish but ill give you some short notice what happened, appearantly hammond was gonna break the speed record with a jetdriven vampyre, he crashed at 450 km/h and his condition is very very critical!
lets all hope he makes it

Yes seen this on the news, not good at all! Poor Hammond, i bet his family are very scared. The news says critical, but stable condition, so thats sort of a good sign!

Here you can see the news story from 'Sky' which shows part of the accident from a distance! he was doing 280mph, thats very quick but i think if he had not been in such a car, then he would have been a lot worse?

That´s pictures from another run and not from the accident. The firetruck allways follows the car at the end of the run so they can reach it in case of an accident.

I hope he makes a full recovery and returns to being the good old presenter that he was because that is exactly what he was, a good presenter together with james may and jeremy clarkson, i mean honestly, have any of you ever seen a better motoring show then Topgear?

The Leeds General Infirmary, where Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond has been treated since his crash at Elvington on Wednesday, has issued a statement about his condition. It's brief:

'A spokesman for the Trust said: “Mr Hammond is making satisfactory progress. This morning he has been moved out of intensive care onto a high dependency unit.”'

This is a stage down from intensive care -- it's for patients who require more intensive observation, treatment and nursing care than are usually provided on a general ward and provides a standard of care between the general ward and full intensive care -- and would suggest that doctors believe his life is no longer thought to be in danger.

Jeremy Clarkson is reported to have said, after a visit to Hammond's bedside: "He was lying peacefully with a black eye but didn't react so I tried something else. I said, 'The reason you're here is because you're a crap driver'. He then smiled at me. It was an amazing moment, very moving."

Although Top Gear favourite Hammond suffered "significant brain injury", doctors say that they are reasonably optimistic about his chances of recovery. He's been conscious at least twice since the accident, which doctors said was a good sign. There are no visible signs of injury apart from a black eye, reports the BBC. He was trying to beat the 300.3mph British land speed record set by the Vampire, driven by Colin Fallows, in a jet-powered dragster at Elvington.

yeah actually mate..

They have said today that he has actually taken a few steps out of his hospital bed to the toilet and back, so he is looking very very promising. his family are overwhelmed by the support he has received!
