Great news for muscle-car lovers: a top Chrysler official has revealed that the new Dodge Challenger will be indistinguishable from the concept car when it arrives in 2008.
In an interview with Detroit News earlier this week, Chrysler’s vice president and top designer Tom Tremont said: "You're not going to be able to tell the difference. We're going to keep the Challenger as close as we can to the concept."
Dodge’s retro concept car created a real buzz when it was first displayed at the Detroit motor show in January. Creating a production Challenger that looks the same as the show car is made easier by the concept using the same rear-wheel-drive platform as the Chrysler 300C. The production car will follow suit. The concept also uses a 6.1-litre Hemi V8 – likely to be the powerplant of choice for the real thing.
Dodge announced last month that it was to make the Challenger, but has not confirmed production of a right-hand-drive version. As the 300C is available in right-hand-drive, we’re hoping that a right-hook Challenger is a real possibility.
