DrRock - Toyota Tercel (uppd 7/5)
Thursday the six of april, 20 minutes past noon, following conversation takes place in Kattegattgymnasiet (swedish highschool, map) dining-room between me and my class mate.
- Oscar, i promise myself that I will never have a car slower then yours!
- Okej, you go ahead and bay a Volvoturbo and then we settle this on the street!, I answered.
When I walked out from the dining-room it hit me, how will i get my Toyota Tercel -87 to beat a Volvo 740 TIC? One of the few benefits my car have is low wieght. And the biggest disadvantage is the engine. To go faster then the Volvo I neaded a new engine. Since my car wouldn't pass the swedish motor vehicle test I thought I could do more then just change engine.

My project car is a Toyota Tercel which I got for free when I turned 15 (I'm 17 now).The car hade a lot of rust and was in rather bad shape. But the engine worked fine.

Permanent front wheel drive with optional 4-wheel drive. Five gears + extra low.
What's going to be done? (in broad outline)
I'm going to instal a Volvo B234F engine (16 valves engine from Volvo 740) with a matching transmission. I will turboconvert the enging with a Garratt T25 or a T28, haven't decided yet. My goal is 220 hp the first season. both front and rear wheel suspension wheel be replaced by a suspencion from a Volvo.
I will try to get the car as light as possible. The car weigh 1100 kilos. My goal is under 800 with the new engine but I hope I will end up around 700
The new suspension will increse the width of track with about 7cm. So I'm going to wide the body, and I thinking of doing something like this. But more sharper lines to make it match with the rest of the car.

Things I have to build:
New light doors, hood, trunk and roof in plastic.
Move the radiator o the trunk and build a new cooling system with two fans.
New tank, 12 liters
Cage (do you call it cage? It's pipes in the car for safety)
New electronical system
New exhaust system which will come out in the front richt fender after the wheel.
Things I have to bay:
Engine (Volvo B234F)
Turbo (Garrett T25 eller T28)
Seats (Sparco Sprint)
Belts (Sparco 04604P)
Airfilter (?)
Lexan the windows
I'm going to let the project take al the time it needs, but I think I can have it done until the autum.

Now I started to strip the car




My nieghbour daniel who's 12 years old helped me.




In this corner I collected al the bodypart I'm going to remake in plastic.

I cut away al the unnecessary sheet-iron


After kicking out the windscreen, I grind o al the glue.

After 40 minutes of intensive grinding there where dust everywhere!

Front wheel uspension is dismounted to magke room for the new parts

Its excellent to be able to finally read one of the zatzy projects in English, and it was translated very well!
I am looking forward to seeing how this car progresses, and turns out in the end, and if you do indeed win your race ;)

Thanks, I was worrried that it wasn't to good. I have lot's of updates, but I thought it would be better if I put them in the thread after a few days?

It's the bars who are atuched in the chassi and they hold the wheel in position.

These are called wishbones (1*) in English. They have what we call a balljoint (2*) fastened to them, which then fastens to the Hub (3*) too allow for movement.
cars which use one top and bottom are know to have 'double wishbone suspension'
I will see if i can get some English car part names translated in to svenska for you.

I'm also rebuilding the grill??? on the car. This is a picture from another tercel with the original grill.
The plan is to make it look more "sporty".
I started with cut al the plastic so the only thing left was the frame. Then I started du putty up the frame.

On this picture I've layied (spelling) al the old plastic in the new frame..

And here is without.

And here is what I want it to look like when it's finished.

This is last weeks update.



Tada! Finished, I very happy with the result. 
Soon I will cut of the roof on the car.
