Steveskii - Volvo 850 T5

Howdy.

Purchased as a late x-mas, early birthday present to myself was a 96 Volvo 850 T5. Set me back £1k which to me seemed like a bargain. 95k (supposedly) on the clock as it had been sat in storeage for 2 years.

The idea with this car is that it will give me something to tinker with as it's my first project. So progress will be slow and steady.
What I'd really like to do is make this car into a really evil sleeper.
I've also got to find a house with a garage as I'm currently garage-less making things that bit harder.

Nice dent in drivers door.

The battery has gone dead and the electrics were being a little bit funny when I picked it up, so that's the first task for this weekend to get that sorted out.

Tyres:
Going to get treated to a new set of rubber all round... any suggestions?

Brakes:
Again any suggestions? It's a bit of a beast to stop!

Engine:
Depends how brave I'm feeling and if i have another form of transport ie: backup if i break it.

Interior:
Undecided as I'm not really sure how long I'm going to be around. The interior is in fairly good condition and will probably be untouched.

Bodywork:
Sort out the dent in the door. Other than that it's in good condition.

Comments, suggestions, advice all welcome and appreciated!

I'll try and get some better shots this weekend. Those were a rush job this morning and I wanted to get this thread started as I knew I'd be bored at work :---).

Tyres:

Toyo T1-S/R - Great in the dry, amazing in the wet

Brakes:
Again any suggestions? It's a bit of a beast to stop!

V70 T5R - They'll do nicely with uprated pads

Engine:

Very stron engine - wouldnt worry abiout breaking it

T5R 850 - Half leather/alcantara - fantastic seats

Paint the wheels black or get some T5R anthracit V70 5 spokes on, and get it lowered.

Good ideas Ant I'll keep them in mind.

Strange fault on the beast, when the ignition is on the indicators are fine and dandy, however when i move the key towards starting or start the engine they don't work. I guess there's a connection fault somewhere, it's just a bit baffling. Oh well, day off on Monday so I'll pull it apart then and see what I can find.

I've taken Ant's advice and gone for the Toyo T1-R's. That gets sorted tomorrow.

As for this, it seems that after searching about my problem is to do with the electrical portion of the ignition switch. So that should be sorted fairly soon.

Then it's on to the fun stuff! :--)

Itsfun quote 275hp at peak & 400nm over the stock 226hp and 300nm ~grin~

thats quite a gain for the price :)

Tyres are on, however I haven't had a good play yet.

Next up is brakes and then I'll start looking at what to do in terms of power.

I've had a little play today and it has made a HUGE difference.

Then again Fisher Price ones would have been better compared to what the car came with.

It's sticking to the road quite well and has given me a lot more confidence in it. Will try and have a good blast this weekend in the morning when it's quiet.

So far so good though.

Yeah I came out fine.

And yes I overstepped the boundaries of the T1's. Basically corner was tighter than i thought, came in a bit too quick and smacked the curb. At first I thought it was a puncture as it didn't feel like i hit it that hard, however it came to a rather sudden stop.
Basically trashed the suspension on the front left.

Time to find a new motor.

No pictures I'm afraid.
