The russian beast have been sleeping for a while, but today was the big day of heart surgery!
The engine, ready to get some fresh air.
Three pair of strong arms placed the engine carefully on this high-tech enginetrolley, borrowed from the Arrows F1-team.
Hoist the colours! Or the engine in this case. Notice the old engine in the back of the picture.
Then, Murphy came by and hit us over the head. The gearbox didn't fit in the body at all, so we had to cut the tunnel to get more room, then the enginemounts didn't fit at all so we stole the old ones from the Vaz engine and fitted them to the Fiat engine, and 200 other things. But three hours later, the new heart was in place.
Fitted carburettor and radiator to check clearance.
Then it was time to carefully close the bonnet and fit my very cheap latches. I think they were ment to be on a tractor in the first place.
Tomorrow, i'm going to Italy for a one week vacation, then it's time to shorten the prop shaft. :)
About as much as a Freightliner. =) Around 1300 kg is a good guess, i never weighed it.
Actually it is very light car. I had one of these, when I lived in EU.
I had 1977 Lada 2103 sedan. With 1.6L Abarth engine in. 2 Weber 40DCOE. Fully build race engine.
My car weight was barely 1000kg, after rear seats were removed and full rollcage was added,
front seats were replace with Sparco.
I don't have pics, becuase once I left my friend messed up my old computer with all pictures in it.
I had originally like 1200 pictures from build.
Anyway. If you roll fenders you can fit 15x8 rims with 225 tires. I had that on mine.
Suspension you can get from Koni or Monroe. And brakes fit from fiat 131, 4 discs.
If you will do engine swap you will have to use different brake servo.
If I will do that today, I will use 2L Lancia Delta HF engine and drivetrain, and make it 4wd swap :)
Let me know if you need any info.
Good to see that people remember the old soviet racer. :) I have not done very much to the car sadly, and there is two main reasons behind that. 1: Turbulence at work. The economical crisit struck hard over the automotive industry here in Sweden and since i work on Volvo Powertrain, my job might be hanging on the edge. :( So, no more shopping before i know if i have a job to go to. 2: I don't have a proper garage to work in. Yesterday, temperatures dropped to -19 degrees celcius and it's not the ideal temperature to start crawling on the ground and measuring the prop shaft. ;) But if things clear up, both work and weather, i'll start working on the beast again!
