waanspeed - Golf mkII project 2007
Ok fellows,
Now i would like to introduce our new Golf mkII project to you. If you like, let us know what you think about and type down everythink what`s in your head..
I think it`s quiet interesting to read such stories. Johnathan does a great job with the documentation of his bmw. If our docu is half good as his, i`ll be satisfied.
Ok, but now let`s start.
We, that`s me and my best friend Tobi (we always build up our car`s together – he`s a real Nürburgring-maniac!), decided to build up a Golf mkII just for the racetrack.
This is the first pic we got. It`s in our garage and shows the golf after checking if the brackets of the seats do fit into the golf. That seats were usually into the polo.
As you can see there`s a lot of dust on the car.. After the painting – yes, the body is already painted – in matt-grey the project stands still for nearly one year.. Btw, the roof is no decal, it`s painted ;-)
The eingine compartment after we changed the steering. It is fact, that the servo-steering costs about 6HP power! So we doomed the servoshit :-)
The next step was to rebrush the cage. We had a mkII cage in white, but that is no cool contrast to the body...
Orange should be a lot better!
The cage is screwed with the body. At this areas we welded steel plates under the car.
Before the cage moved into the golf we had to put in the dashboard in and had to do this fu***** elektric. The car is from 1987 but we now use the new 1991 digifant elektric.
That`s after we put in the cable loom for the light and on the otherside the loom for the engine. Did i say something about the engine yet? Well, wait and see...
This is the ECU for the new engine. Freely programmable with direkt interface for the laptop.
Ok , now let`s go to the engine. It was a very long process till Tobi and i got together... He was prefering a 1.8liter ABF 16 valve with tubo. In my opinion this is better for drag racing than for the race track. So we decided to take a hight rpm suction engine!
We took the 9A 2.0liter 16V from the passat as base and put on a VGS raceinjection with 45mm throttle valves!! The inlet and outletvalve diameters are stock yet. The conduits are polished. Variable camwheel, 306° cams by Schrick with 10.5mm valvestoke. Special countersunk pistons for the valves by Brügge-Motorsport. Stock rods and stock crankshaft. So that is what limits our rpm. For the futur we will need a steel crankshaft and rods. Now the limiter is at 8200rpm. On the dyno this engine had 218HP with a shit exhaust and a stock cat. So we hope to get about 225HP with the supersprint exhaust a special racing manifold and a 200cells race cat...
Fucking nice to have!!!
This is our new hatch. It`s GRP! The next step is to change the windows from glas into makrolon.
So that`s the state of affairs in middel october. Next things to be done are:
- The frontbrakes. We need the caliper from the G60
- The water cooler. We got no cooler yet. I think we`ll take the big one of the VR6
- The cockpit for the `91 elektric. It has to be from the 16V, because the rpm there goes up to 8000.
- Exhaust system
- A quiet good gearbox. At least the 2Y of the 16V
So you see we got a lot to do.. We hope to be on street till the first of may 2007

WOW - That looks awesome! I had thought about an orange cage for mine, but i will not do that now you have, what a great contrast though! Loads of info marcel, what a good read! I will deffinatly be following this! ;)
8000rpm is nice, what are your other plans for suspension and roadholding?

Thanx a lot Johnathan!
Go for it and brush your cage orange!!! And if you like give the body a matt de luxe touch!! :-)
The steering knuckle will be G60. The wishbone G60 passat for a wider track. I think it`s about 30mm..
The suspension now is some unknown tuning shit. Nothing for the racetrack and less than ever for the Nordschleife. But for the first testing it`s better than nothing..
Our budget for this year is pretty stressed. The german Motorshow in Essen at december will perhaps bring something new. Before we go out to the ring we´ll definitely change the suspension into the B16PSS9 from Bilstein!! An ingenious part of technical engineering!

Mad props go out to you and your project, I would hate to strip a car to its bare bones like that. If that thing is making 225whp to the wheels on all motor, then even more props to you.

Hi there and thanx for your interest! Nice feeling to know that people from the states are looking what`s up in our garage :-)
Next spring we`ll see what the engine can, when we go to the dyno... But first of all we have to complete the car. I will post some more pics at the weekend..
Btw.: Nice ride you got!! I`ve seen some pics in johnathans thread! The eclipse is aware to us, but we never heard of your model here in germany... Do you have some Golf II in Chicago?? :-)

yeah, veedubs are a big following here, heres a shop from the chicago suburbs that does nothign but dubs http://www.dubwerks.com/ . Yeah the marketing for the eclispe to be sold under 3 brands only followed for north america, until its utter dimise to be sold through mitsu only now, since ealge and plymouth do not exist anymore.

So, little update: Not that you think we`ve done nothing ;)
I´m just back out of the garage.. Unfortunately we got no camera today. But we did nothing really interesting the last week. We are waiting for ordered parts.
We ordered the cockpit of an edition golf mkII matched for our elektric. (We primal wanted to heve the stack instruments, but who will pay this?? I think we`ll need a proper sponsor! :)) The rpm goes up to 8000. That´s what we need. And we ordered the complete brake systen of teh G60 for the front axle. But we didn´t get it this weekend..
So we reinstalled the big Bosch fuel pump with all lines from the back to the front.
Then we put new brake pipes at the rear axle.
And we pressed out the windows to get lexan parts in next week! Nice!!
And at last i had to change the allready installed front loom for the light. Because i installed one of the passat. Great laugh at my cost, i tell ya!
Ok, that was this week so far. Next time i`ll be back with pics - promised.
So i wish you all a nice weekend!
See ya!

Superb!!
Lexan windows are super cool and will help the overall power/weight ratio. It sounds like you are making very decent progress even if you dont think too interesting!
Can't wait to see more pictures :)
