The second generation E70 X5 hasn’t even been introduced in many countries but already German tuners Hamann have released a performance upgrade package for the new SUV. The modified car is the top-end 4.8i model that’s powered by a 355hp V8 engine in standard guise. Hamann bumps output to 400hp thanks to a free-flow exhaust system and ECU upgrade, which enables the big ute to reach 0 to 100km/h in just 6.2 seconds beating the standard car’s acceleration figure by 0.3 seconds. Top speed remains electronically limited to 250km/h.

Visually, the tuned car remains much the same as the standard version except for the lowered sports suspension that sits a full 10cm lower over regular X5s and a set of Hamann 20 or 22in alloy wheels.

not a fan. much prefer the old X5, or even the Volvo XC90 (the volvo is still quite rare in this country!!!)

it will grow on you, I think this looks alright but nothing would say sweet power more than a turbo kit for this thing.

I used to think the X5's were real ugly, but that is rather quite nice looking. In that guise it actually looks quite beastly, a bit excessive for the school run though!
In terms of sheer looks I think it beats the Cayenne by a long way.

I would be interested to see how the brakes were, the thought of having that coming towards me is a bit scary.

hmmm, not an SUV fan myself anyway, but i do like the general look of that (as far as SUV's go!), Its a shame it will only be bought in this country by footballers and by housewives to take the children to school in London

U should come to the states then, we love SUV's, and you don't have to be a footballer to own one:

Check out the chevy site, we get the trailblazer in a ss trim, which come with the same engine they stuff in the corvette, a 400hp ls2.

yeah haha, its not that you have to be a footballer to own one, it just seems to be a stereotypical image they inflict upon themselves. Same as UK parents really, just buying them for taking their kids to school and not a right lot else. One of our Radio 1 DJ's suggested an untapped market in London for spraying SUV's and 4x4 vehicles with mud to make them look authentic :D

Seriously though, i know America is big on SUV's and other such variants and i suppose it follows the old 'bigger is better' theme you have going on over there. Also although you guys complain that your fuel prices are high, they are still WAY cheaper than here so running these things is a lot more realistic. I do think they look great but what use is there having a 400hp ls2 vette engine for instance when it weighs 20 million tons ..

you have the right idea with your car, loads of power but nice and light :D Its the future!
